Social Media Module

For our final project for my English 211 class we were asked create our own lecture, and publish our own social media learning module for our online class.

We chose the learning platform of using Prezi which is a lot similar to Microsoft's PowerPoint but it is internet based and not computer programed based. Its a Website that you create an account on to create various types of presentations for school and or the workplace. The website have a free account that is open to the public or you may purchase different types of access that allows you to more advanced options. My group member came up with the idea of choosing to use Prezi as the platform for our module and I thought it was a great idea. I recently just became familiar with the program within the last two years because my program director prefers Prezi as a more professional presentations for out end of the semester case studies. I had no idea about this presentation program and if I did I probably would've been using it sooner. We decided to choose Prezi because were giving people especially college students another medium to do there presentations with.

We divided the tasks for the assignment as follows: I created the discussion and the assignment for the module and my other group member uploaded the supporting materials and also created a quiz for the assignment. In order to complete the assignment me and my group member used another social media outlet to communicate. Google hangout is an easy mean of communication. Especially if you have the app on your phone it makes it so convenient to communicate.

As college students, with multiple classes that require several presentation types of assignments throughout the semester our audience we targeted would be our fellow peers. I personally would have loved to know about the program before it was required of me to use it. That way I would have already been familiar with how to use it, and wouldn't have been so lost in the beginning.

Doing this project was a good experience to be on the other end of the module and see how the Canvas network is behind the scenes and also what goes into creating an assignment.

Face-off

The face of money as we know it will soon be changing in the next decade or so. according to an article published on today on April 25, 2016 written by Sarah Pruitt US. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew has announced a makeover of U.S currency.

Previously in May of 2015, the advocacy of women on 20's conducted a poll asking which notable woman should replace Andrew Jackson on the 20 dollar bill by 2020, 100 years after the amendment passed which gave women the right to vote. Out of 600,000 People who were involved in the poll 118,328 chose Harriet Tubman which was 7,000 votes leading over Eleanor Roosevelt

Plans changed, last July he announced plans to redesign the $10 dollar bill, featuring a prominent woman from history yet to be named. In the new bill Alexander Hamilton will remain on the bill alongside the woman who is chosen to be on the bill. The advocacy group from woman on 20's were disappointed and argued that the chosen woman should have her own place of honor on the bill.

As of this week the treasury secretary announced a whole different game plan which included making over the $20 $10 and $5 dollar bill. Harriet Tubman will replace Jackson on the twenty dollar bill becoming the first ever woman in a century and also the first African American to ever be on the front of U.S currency. Jackson will not be all the way removed from the bill, on the flip side he will be shown in a much smaller image along side the White House.

The new plans for the redesigned $10 bill, Hamilton will hold his place on the currency but on the back, which the current image will be replaced with a photo of a 1913 suffrage march that ended in front of the U.S treasury building along with portraits of activist Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and Susan B Anthony.

The back of the five dollar bill as we know it will change from the image of the Lincoln Memorial to a backdrop of the same monument with a depiction of the 1939 performance by the African-American singer Marian Anderson, a woman who was barred from performing at the segregated Constitution Hall. First Lady Roosevelt had arranged for her to play at the Lincoln Memorial. Roosevelt will appear on the back of the bill along side Dr. Marin Luther King Jr, who also delivered his "I have A Dream" speech in front of the same monument in 1963.

The last time U.S currency went under such a drastic redesign was in 1929, when paper money was reduced in size and design to cut cost. The final designs will be released in 2020 which is the centennial of women's suffrage in the United States.

I think that the new change to the faces of U.S currency will be beneficial will all the counterfeit that goes on, and it will be nice for women to know have the ability to be on U.S currency, Which is something that we all work so hard for day in and day out.

Change

Change is always something that should occur, weather it is something that has to happen or it happens gradually as you grow as a person. Change is not always good it, it is not always bad. Sometimes it is just something little or something life changing. Adapting to change is not always easy but nothing in life is easy. Its all about growing as a person.

Change happens all around us, the seasons change, the weather changes, and people change.
but sometimes we are not always ready for the changes that life throws at us.

Change can happen is your heart, change can happen in your mind, change can happen in your looks and change can happen in your friends.

Why do things change,,,,

But if things did not change, how boring would this life be if things were constantly the same.

We were all made to be different whether it be by our looks, are personality, our views, our hearts but its the all the differences in the world that connect people together. We all fit together like a puzzle peace one way or another.

Personally a lot of things are about to change, am I mentally ready for the change not really but preparing myself as much as I possibly can cause once they change its about to take off and there is no turning back.

Were on this one way journey and there is no where to go but forward, turning back will only mean we are going the wrong way. There is nothing wrong with making pit stops along the way but the light is always at the end of the tunnel and that is forward

Change, change is not always good, and not always bad but sometimes its just what we need to get out of the funk we are in. Comfort is where we will always find ourselves but comfort wont get you no where unless your are willing to change.

Hard work pays off eventually....

Going into the last few week of his semester its finally starting to hit me that graduation is near and all the hard work is going to pay off. When you first get accepted into a program it seems as if the time goes by so slow and the end is so far. Let me tell you this semester has flown by and we have been so busy. It seems as if time is going faster than we can keep up with.

During spring break I go to do one of my final steps of the semester and take part in my internship at a hospital of my choice. I chose to do my internship at the near by children s hospital and I could not have been more eager and excited. When you are participating in your internship you are there on your own without your clinical instructors and other classmates as we are use to having when we have our regular clinical rotations. You are assigned to a unit of your choice, I choice to be in the NICU (Neonatal intensive care unit) because when I graduate that is where I hope to be. Once I arrived I was assigned to be with a fellow therapist who was scheduled in the unit for that day and basically take there workload and do all the daily requirements and work units while they supervised me. It was an awesome experience to get a little taste of what a respiratory therapist does throughout a whole shift. I ended up doing my shift during the graveyard shift. Never have I stayed up an entire night and there is no excuses tired or not if you want to sleep or night. My 12 hour shift ending up turning into 15 hour shift including the drive to and from. My first night I was frightened that I was not going to be able to hang the whole night, but once your actually in the hospital setting the staying awake part wasn't that hard for me after all I did three graveyard shifts back to back and even on the last day I had to be back to my regular job that early afternoon after I had just finished my 12 hour shift. After my days and all that I got to experience I decided that I enjoyed the night shift after all and would like to choose that shift once I get hired. Little strange most people would not choose that shift but he atmosphere is so much different compared to days. You still encounter the same situations because we all know that he world doesn't sleep. But I suppose its personal preference and not everyone is made out to do night shift.

These last few weeks we have just been preparing to take our board exam to earn our credentials. Right now we are almost to the finish line. Never did I think I would be where I am today with all the struggles and obstacles that have come my way. But never have I stopped believing that I was capable of doing what I have my mind set on, nor ever lost my faith even when it seemed like everything was falling apart. I recently just received my first job offer and couldn't be more blessed that its at the first choice hospital on my list of where I would love to work. Now its all up to these last few weeks to overcome, graduate and pass our board exam to get where I want to be for now. This ride has definitely  been an adventure. I've established some amazing friendship while going on this RT journey and couldn't be more grateful. I cant way to begin my new journey once the end of this chapter closes.

Old VS New

Facebook and MySpace are two social Medias that were or are very popular on the internet. MySpace was much more popular about 10 years ago. I began using MySpace when I was a freshman in high school. I can recall all my friends having a MySpace with their favorite music and changing profile layouts what seemed like every week.  I feel like a MySpace profile allowed you to express your personality more with the ability to personal it.  Other users were able to grasp more about the individual, because you were able to choose a background layout, show your interests, choose your top friends, and post statuses about what you were feeling.

MySpace however began to lose interest when people stopped using it as frequently, due to the fact that other social media outlets began to generate popularity, such as Facebook. So I, like the rest of the crowd abandoned MySpace and created myself a Facebook.  Facebook is a much more evolved form of MySpace.

On Facebook you are still able to personalize your page with a cover phot or profile picture. However you are unable to customize the layout of your Facebook wall. Facebook generates people you may you know based on mutual friends so you can come in contact which whom you have not contacted in several years. Facebook has recently become more of a sharing of memes, videos, and quotes rather than personal post or status updates.  It is also a way of during business, such as I purchased a set of couches on a page of users that are interested in selling items.  It has also become a way of first hand news throughout your city before it is aired on the television.  Here a photo posted by another user can be liked and commented on by another user.  I think that is a great asset of Facebook, however, it is also a downfall because this is where a lot of cyber bullying takes place by some peoples comments that are made especially publicly made photos that are continuously shared and made fun of.

The profile is a customized page by the user. It may include, music, customized background, and images.
Friends are part of profile page, however, are displayed by clicking on the friend link, which are displayed randomly.
Friends
You can choose your top friends and have them shown on your on your profile.
You can post images, videos, and statuses.
Feed
You can only post statuses on you using characters.
Friends can like, comment and/or share another users posted photo.
Photos
A friend is only able to comment about another user’s photo.

Facebook I have to admit is addicting I always catch myself eager to check my Facebook to see what is going on. It has become a time consuming app that has many people intrigued. Constantly we can catch people walking down isles of stores, in class, and at work scrolling their fingers across the screen of their phone checking out the news feed. My Facebook book habits have changed as well as I’m sure others have, its I know so much post many statuses besides photos and share different meme’s and videos rather than actually typing out a text status.

The Social Network

The Social Network Blog Post
By: Jerica Gomez, Alejandra Delgado, and Chris Hinojosa

The Late president Franklin D. Roosevelt once said “We have always known that heedless self interest was bad morals, we now know that it is bad economics”. These words still ring true in today’s money-centric society. Everything is cutthroat and follows a very dog-eat-dog sentiment.

Especially apparently in the tech industry, it seems like you need to have the biggest, most innovative before anyone else in order to be successful. If you aren’t first you’re simply swept under the rug by a competitor that feels no remorse. It is in this kind of setting that we find the brainstorming and ultimate creation of Facebook, arguably the biggest force in social media and networking.

Saying that the founding and  rise of Facebook was a little controversial is a major understatement. It seems like a countless number of people had to get “thrown under the bus” in order to Mark Zuckerberg to get rich and famous. Both business and social ethics seem to fall by the wayside, in some cases ruining the lives of multiple people in the process.

Venture capitalism and who had the role in the creation of Facebook might be a different answer depending on who you are asking and it's a bit controversial. Eduardo Saverin was considered the initial investor with the start start up money to  start thefacebook, he handled all the business aspects of the the network while Mark Zuckerberg created it. The business deal as the venture capitalist was an agreement that he would get 30% of the company for the money put up, while Mark would receive 70%.

Eduardo Saverin was Mark's best friend at the time and he was liked to give people at Harvard the impression that he was rich wealth, he was very eager to be involved in a fraternity. He was very intelligent and great at math and was an asset to Mark's creations and was the business face of the original thefacebook network.

The Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler were two very wealthy men of a fraternity that came from a high society who were in the midst of creating their own social network and gave Zukerberg the initial layout for his soon to be million dollar company. They approached Mark after he created his very first site that crashed the network FaceMash they were intrigued by his network and approached him with the idea of the Harvard connection, where they gave him all the means to create their network while he lead them to believe that he was doing so, and continued to give them the run around while he created his own network using the ground work of their idea.

Sean Parker became Mark Zuckerberg's business partner and was the founder of the music app Napster. He became intrigued when facebook gained a lot of popularity but was very money driven. Parker and Zuckerberg con Eduardo to give up almost all his shares within the company for personal gain. He was a very cocky, arrogant and manipulative man.

Zuckerberg's attitude towards exclusivity of networks, his initial target was Harvard, then it expanded to other prestigious ivy league colleges as it gained popularity. The initial idea was something fun and hip. The exclusivity came into play when you had to know who the people were to get passed the site. Requiring a university email to access the network. The users had the ability to invite or deny people and were able to use there own photos.

Looking at the gender roles and interactions, it is very simple to see what little regard the men had for women. The entire event that got the ball rolling for the idea of Facebook was finding a way to seek revenge on Erica Albright after she dumps Mark Zuckerberg for insulting her education and claiming assuming that the only reason they were even able to go on their date at the bar was because she had slept with the ‘door guy’ who was a close friend of hers. It is very obvious how she easily found this offensive.

He looks to lash out and take his frustration out on the female students from nine Harvard houses after Erica claims that women will not like him not because he is a nerd, but because he is an asshole. [On the contrary, at the end of the movie, a law intern tells him that he is not an asshole, he just tries to be, which seems to make him thoughtful as he goes to friend Erica Albright on Facebook].

This website was called FaceMash, where two students were compared side-by-side and users chose which was ‘hotter’. It is extremely petty.  Once Cameron & Tyler Winklevoss twins hear of what Mark Zuckerberg did with FaceMash that got 22,000 hits in two hours and shut down Harvard’s network. They go to confront him to ask about him being a programmer for them, he asks if he had insulted their girlfriends. They are quick to answer that they do not know, should probably ask them, and brush the subject away implying that they do not care who was hurt by the website.

The only people that seem to care about such are the adults on the Administration Board, blatantly portrayed as killjoys, to put it simply. Throughout the rest of the movie as well, women are represented as simplistic, stupid, or objectified. Mark Zuckerberg's (for a time) best friend (and later co-founder of Facebook) Eduardo Saverin also consistently makes remarks on women (specifically on Asian women) that are purely sexual in nature. His hook-up that later becomes his girlfriend is also portrayed as a psychotic, possessive woman.

Once Mark moves to California, the women that live in the house spend their screen time getting stoned and used seemingly as entertainment. The shown relationships between the men and women are -in one word- unhealthy.

In conclusion, it's safe to say that Mark Zuckerberg was definitely at the right place and the right time when he began working on Facebook. Another important thing to note is that the film The Social Network wasn’t based on a completely thoroughly researched biography of the creation of Facebook. Rather, it was based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by author Ben Mezrich. The primary consultant for the book was apparently Eduardo Saverin, which very much could have made the material somewhat biased.

The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezricha

There are even conflicting accounts from most of the other founders of Facebook. Many who have stated that both the book and the film have some elements of truth, but were still very much exaggerated in order to make for better experiences for viewers. This makes sense because it's doubtful that the uneventful, more truthful version of the history of Facebook’s founding most likely wouldn’t garner as many accolades as a more dramatized version would have. Movie goers and society itself kind of craves narratives with grandiose displays of drama where the stakes are high and if one person isn’t a predator they instantly become the prey.

This is also unfortunate, because if the film does paint certain people in a bad light purposefully in order to make the story better than it in turn would be tarnishing those people’s names in the spirit of greed. More realistic representations of historical events should have a more meaningful impact on ticket sales. Only time will tell if this will ever happen.

RT Life

People are always questioning what are you going to do with your life, what career field are you going into. I simply reply I am currently a student I will be graduating in May in Respiratory Therapy. I was get a wow that awesome, but always a puzzled look because they are never quite sure what exactly a respiratory therapist does. A simple what do they do is always followed. I smile and say we help save lives. Once your in the medical field you see so much you have to be a strong, and compassionate person. It's not for everyone. But I would personally say that a respiratory therapist is a nurse specifically for the heart and lungs. That is the best answer that I am able to come up with. The lungs and the heart work hand and hand, and without either you wouldn't be alive.

Never take a breath for granted is easily said but its the honest truth with out that single breath we would not be here. The first thing a baby does when they are brought into this world is they take that very first breath and we hear that beautiful cry. Even as a student I've seen so many tragic situations and in my own personal life as well. The airway followed by breathing is the first steps in basic life saving. That is where the respiratory therapist come into play. When a Code happens in a hospital setting a RT is one of the first ones called to the patient to help establish an airway, assist in ventilation manually or depending on the patient we are able to set up a ventilator so that way it could breath for the patient.

When a child has an allergic reaction to peanuts, or is having an asthma attack and there airway is closing up RT is there to calm the child there, administer breathing treatments to help the child be able to regain there ability to breath again.

When a patient is on life support and the family is ready to discontinue support the RT is there and is the one who has to pull the plug.

When a new born baby is born and is unable to take there first breath, the RT is there and to help the new baby and assist in the first breath

When you know your patient is strong enough to breath on there own who is there to help them work hard to strengthen there muscles and help wean them off the breathing machine, RT

When you are finally able to remove the breathing tube from a patient who is there supporting you, and watching take your very first unassisted breath

The saddest part is respiratory therapist are often not given the credit they deserve. It all goes to the nurses. Which most of it should but we work just as hard and equally with each other to get the patients well. Because a breath should never be taken for granted.
